January in the Midwest is typically filled with snow, ice, and chilly temperatures, but that doesn’t mean that you should spend all winter indoors! Because hot chocolate and snow angels are only fun for the first few days, we’ve compiled a list of diverse happenings near downtown Indy. Say goodbye to cabin fever and hello to one of these fun events.
Pacers Game Night – January 9, 13, 16, 27, 31
To kick off 2015, our Indiana Pacers will take on the Boston Celtics, Minnesota Timberwolves, Detroit Pistons, Toronto Raptors, New York Knicks, and Sacramento Kings at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. Grab tickets to one (or more) of the games and stop by CityWay beforehand for a bite to eat at Gandolfo’s Deli or a craft brew at Plat 99: Mixology Lounge. Don’t forget, CityWay always has $10 event parking for Pacers games, just one block from The Fieldhouse.
Greater Indianapolis Garage Sale – January 10 – 11
The hunt is on at the 39th annual Greater Indianapolis Garage Sale on January 10 and 11, Saturday and Sunday respectively. The marketplace takes place at the Indiana State Fairgrounds Blue Ribbon Pavilion, and there will be tons of items for bargain hunters and shoppers to browse. Check out one of their 600 different vendor booths and find unbelievable prices on jewelry, antiques, art supplies and more!
Devour Downtown Indianapolis – January 19 – February 1
Indy’s premier dining event is back in action beginning on January 19 and lasting through February 1. Per usual, CityWay staples Plat 99: Mixology Lounge and Cerulean Indianapolis will feature delectable items on their value-priced menus, which will be available on the Devour Downtown website. No tickets or coupons are necessary, but you might consider making a reservation!
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration – January 20
The Indiana State Museum in White River State Park is celebrating the life and legacy of civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on January 20 from 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM. Enjoy demonstrations and cultural activities throughout the day and receive free admission for any canned good donated to Gleaners Food Bank.
5th Annual Indy Fringe Winter Magic Festival – January 22 – 25
Back for the 5th year in a row is Indy’s Winter Magic Festival, sponsored by IndyFringe. You won’t want to miss the surprising and innovative talents of world-class magicians like Oscar Muñoz and Trigg Watson! Purchase tickets to one of the individual shows for $15, or to the World Championship of Magic Showcase for $30, through Vendini.
